PHYSICAL RESEARCH LABORATORY (P.R.L) -JRF POST 2012

Ph.D. PROGRAMME 

Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) is a premier national research institution under the aegis of the Department of Space, Government of India. Founded in 1947 by Dr. Vikram A. Sarabhai, PRL is known to be the “cradle of space sciences” in India. The laboratory has four campuses, located at Ahmedabad, Mt. Abu and Udaipur. The main campus in Navrangpura, Ahmedabad houses most areas of research activities with the exception of programmes in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Planetary Science & Exploration which are located at Thaltej campus in Ahmedabad. The astronomical and solar observatories are located at Mt. Abu and Udaipur, respectively.
PRL offers Junior Research Fellowships leading to a Ph.D. degree in the following broad scientific areas:

Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) programme starts usually in the month of July/August every year.

Eligibility criteria for applying to the JRF programme:
M.Sc. in one of the following subjects:
(1) Physics, Space Sciences, Atmospheric Sciences, Chemistry (Physical / Nuclear / Analytical), Geology, Geophysics, Ocean Sciences and Climate Sciences.
(2) The candidate must have taken Physics and Mathematics at the Under Graduate level.
(3) A minimum of 60% marks at Bachelor’s and Master’s level are required for all candidates.
Age Limit: Not more than 25 years as on 31st December 2011 (i.e., born on or after 31.12.1986).
Selection Procedure:
All the invited candidates will appear in a written test. The level of test will be based on the Post Graduate syllabi of Indian Universities. Performance in the written test and the latest scores in JEST / GATE / UGC-CSIR NET - JRF, if available, will be considered for qualifying for personal interview that will follow.
All the candidates are required to fill-in the PRL application form.
Those who qualify in the interview will be selected as JRFs at PRL. Candidates whose results are awaited at the time of interview will be admitted provisionally. They will be confirmed admission in PRL subject to their securing at least 60% marks in the qualifying examination i.e. M.Sc.
Fellowship and other relevant facilities being provided by PRL:
Selected JRFs will be paid a fellowship of ` 16,000/- per month which will be raised to ` 18,000/- per month after two years, subject to a satisfactory academic review. A book grant of ` 7,500/- per year will be given for five years to purchase books that are relevant to the research work being carried out by the Research Fellow.
